Position Summary:

The Functional Assessment Specialist is responsible for administering, scoring, and interpreting the Functional Assessment Rating Scales (FARS) and Children’s Functional Assessment Rating Scale (CFARS) to evaluate the behavioral, emotional, and psychosocial functioning of clients within behavioral health programs. The specialist plays a key role in treatment planning, outcome measurement, and ensuring compliance with state and organizational standards for behavioral health assessment and reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Administer FARS and CFARS assessments to clients as part of intake, periodic review, and discharge processes.

  • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of assessment results in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.

  • Collaborate with clinicians and treatment teams to integrate FARS/CFARS data into individualized treatment planning.

  • Monitor functional progress and changes in client status over time using assessment data.

  • Train and support clinical staff in proper administration and use of FARS/CFARS as needed.

  • Stay up to date with state and organizational regulations concerning functional assessments and outcome measures.

  • Participate in quality assurance processes related to data accuracy, fidelity, and compliance.

  • Assist in the preparation of reports or summaries for funding sources, auditors, or administration that rely on FARS/CFARS data.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive client information in compliance with HIPAA and agency policy.


Required Qualifications:

  • Certification or training in FARS and/or CFARS administration (or willingness to obtain certification upon hire).

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a behavioral health or clinical setting.

  • Knowledge of mental health diagnoses, treatment modalities, and functional assessments.

  • Strong documentation, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Record systems.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Medicaid or state-funded behavioral health service reporting requirements.

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English or other language commonly spoken by the client population).

  • Experience with outcome-based behavioral health programs and data-driven treatment planning.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Work is typically performed in an office or clinical setting.

  • May require occasional travel to Sanford location.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods and use a computer.
